Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights;
it is a change that goes on,
deep and permanent,
in the ideas of living.

- Miriam Beard

I have been very fortunate to have traveled to some of those far-away places written about in books. Looking though my photo albums, I noticed the photos fading a bit, as my memories of each trip slowly fade. Painting from those photos has allowed me to experience those places again and to express in my paintings the effect of being able to visit very different parts of our world has had on me and how I relate to our world.

Mary Stiff, painter, has used her fading photographs from trips to near and distant places in the world to experience those places again through the act of painting.
